Under the Christian Ex-Jehovah's Witness Recovery FaceBook Group, in response to a question by a person that was in transition from Jehovah's Witnesses, and that was seeking to find her way towards choosing a Christian local Church, I said in essence what follows: Local churches are like people, each has its own personality. You need to find a local church that suits the person you are, and one where you feel your specific background seems to be respected.

Another analogy to compare local churches with is that of the family. There are groups of churches that share some common characteristics. Some are more inclined to being very expressive, others are of a more sober temperament.

Whatever church-family you choose (Pentecostals, Baptists, Christian Alliance, non-denominational, to name only a few), and whatever local church within that family you visit, give yourself time to get used to the way things are being done.

Don't just go to the service and leave. Try to engage people there, try talking to the pastor or to members of the pastoral team, explaining your background and your desire to transition. See if they can provide guidance within their local church or elsewhere.

Pray to the Lord that He will guide you through it all. An enthusiastic crowd of believers who help you experiment God's power in your life could be just what you need. A very strong accent on Bible teaching would also be amongst the important factors to consider. Pastoral support also. Friendliness of members too.

God bless you in your research! To the above answer spontaneously provided to that question, I would now like to add links to two related blog posts:

These do not address the specific issue of a former Jehovah Witnesses person or family trying to move from the Watch Tower Organization towards a Christian Local Church, but it does provide some insight into my own processes through the years when I was having to make a choice of a similar nature, involving a switch from a local church to another.

Finally, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) provides directories by country and by denomination which may come in handy in identifying a local church of a particular church family in one's own region of the world.

Hoping this will provide help to some.
