John Piper introduces his book titled Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die with the following statement (p. 11): «The most important question of the twenty-first century is: Why did Jesus Christ come and die? To see this importance we must look beyond human causes. The ultimate answer to the question, Who killed Jesus? is: God did. It is a staggering thought. Jesus was his Son! But the whole message of the Bible leads to this conclusion».
I would earnestly invite anyone interested in understanding what the core of Christianity is all about to download John Piper's Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die graciously offered by DesiringGod.org.
John Piper's motive for writing this book was to help go beyond the whats of Jesus' Death depicted in Mel Gibson's movie the Passion of Jesus-Christ to the whys of it.
My own personal interest in reading this book comes from a question I was asked a few years back which went something like this: «Why did God chose to save us through such a means as the death of His Son on the cross? Could God not have chosen a less painful means of doing so?» The answer I gave at the time was not found satisfactory by the person asking it, who remained under the impression of having heard all of what I said before. My answer indeed had not gone beyond a traditional presentation of the Gospel.
As you read through the book, feel free to join this forum and share how it is helping you getting a better grasp of the many facets presented by John Piper as to why Jesus came and die.
